Section Highlights

The Section of Hematology and Oncology provides care across six major healthcare systems while advancing strategic goals focused on integration, collaboration, and academic excellence.
Patient volumes continue to grow, particularly at the new O'Quinn Medical Tower at BSLMC, where the section launches a Phase 1 clinical trial program supported by the Margaret Alkek Foundation for Experimental Therapeutics.
Faculty secure more than $5 million in research funding and publish 48 peer-reviewed studies, with a strong focus on translational science and innovative treatment protocols.
Faculty receive national recognition, including Dr. Helen Heslop with the ASH Mentor Award, Dr. Ang Li with an ASCO Career Development Award, and Dr. Salma Kaochar with the AACR Early Career Award.
Drs. Tannaz Armaghany and Sravanti Teegavarapu receive Excellence in Patient Care Awards, and Drs. Courtney Miller-Chism and Sarvari Yellapragada are honored with Best Subspecialty Clinic Teaching Awards.
Fellows Drs. Huili Zhu and Nataly Torrejon earn ASCO Young Investigator Awards, and recent faculty promotions include Drs. LaQuisa Hill and Yvonne Sada to associate professor and Dr. Benjamin Musher to professor.
