Genetic Counseling Program Application Process

Application Steps

Create a NEW APPLICATION. Application materials will be saved and you will be able to return to them until your application is complete.

You can save your work in progress at any time until you are ready to submit it. A $65 non-refundable application fee is required prior to submission. Applications should only be sent through the applications. Application materials should system not be sent directly to Baylor College of Medicine.

If you forget your username, email GCProgramAdmissions@bcm.edu from the email account used on the application. If you forget your password, click the "Forgot Password" button on the login page. Please do not create additional/duplicate applications.

Applications do not transfer from one year to another. You will need to complete a new application if you decide to apply for a different year.

LOGIN to your EXISTING APPLICATION. To return to your saved application, use the username and password you created when you started your application. Check your APPLICATION STATUS.

Once you have submitted your application, the Status Page allows you to follow the receipt of letters of recommendation, transcripts, standardized test scores, and the current stage of your application.

National Matching Service Unique ID Requirement

The Association of Genetic Counseling Program Directors has established a waiver for the $100 fee associated with the NMS Match. Prospective students who demonstrate financial need AND have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater can apply for a match fee waiver. Prospective students should apply for a fee waiver BEFORE registering for an NMS number.

There are a limited number of waivers, so not all applicants will receive a waiver. Instructions for how to register for the NMS match will be provided to those who receive a waiver.

Waivers are non-transferable to future match cycles or other prospective students. Prospective students who are applying for a match fee waiver will be required to write a short essay and to upload at least one of the following documents demonstrating financial need:

  • A copy of a letter verifying unemployment benefits received within the past two years.
  • A copy of a letter on official letterhead from a government agency verifying that you or your family have qualified for public assistance based on low income criteria anytime within the past five years
  • A copy of your financial aid award letter from another / previous institution dated within five the past years
  • A copy of your approved GRE fee waiver (for tests taken within five years of the application deadline)
  • A copy of your federal Student Aid Report (SAR) that verifies you qualified for financial aid within the past five years based on a family contribution* of:
    • Not more than $1,500 if the student is a dependent student
    • Not more than $1,900 if the student is an independent student

Detailed Instructions

Submit all of your information using the online application and ask your recommenders to submit their assessment and recommendations online as well. With the exception of official transcripts, supporting documents should be uploaded into the application system. Items received by mail will not be processed.

The application portal for the 2025-2026 admissions cycle went live on Sept. 1, 2026 and will close at midnight, Dec. 1, 2026. Missing recommendation letters will result in an incomplete application that will not be reviewed.

If you are selected for an interview, interview dates will be arranged for dates in the spring of 2025.

Follow all instructions carefully as incomplete information may delay the processing of your application. Fields can be edited and entries can be cut and pasted from a word processing program. The online application asks for contact, demographic information, a personal statement, academic history, transcripts, standardized test scores, research and work experience, honors and publications, and the contact information of two individuals who can provide a letter of recommendation.

Once an application is submitted, you can only make changes by contacting GCProgramAdmissions@bcm.edu.

Personal Interviews

Applicants who are invited for interviews have the opportunity to meet with GCP leadership, faculty and staff, and virtually tour the campus and facilities.
