Program Overview
The fellowship program in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine provides opportunities for high-quality hands-on training in all aspects of pulmonary and critical care
The mission of the program is to train skilled clinicians, physician-scientists and clinical educators. This is accomplished through intensive exposure to diverse clinical services in the inpatient and outpatient settings, a robust didactic educational program and research opportunities throughout the college. The section’s focus is complementary to Baylor's mission of excellence in research, education and service.
Basic and clinical research programs at Baylor are funded at more than $208 million annually, placing us among the best of the nation's 125 medical schools in extramural research support. Faculty members hold numerous leadership positions within national scientific societies and participate actively in many national and international scientific meetings related to clinical and basic science investigation.
The clinical activities of the section are based out of three hospitals within the Texas Medical Center: Ben Taub Hospital, Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center and the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. This diverse learning environment is one of the most unique aspects of the program, as is the opportunity for hands-on experience in specialty areas such as lung transplantation, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary arterial hypertension, interventional pulmonary, lung cancer, asthma, COPD and occupational disorders. Critical care training also includes management of ARDS, sepsis, post-cardiothoracic surgery patients, LVADs, ECMO and many other aspects of critical care medicine.
Applications for the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship training program will be accepted through ERAS. For more information, contact Sheba Hopkins and check our admissions section.
