Professional Statement

Research Focus: I am a molecular epidemiologist whose primary research focus is to elucidate inherited genetic effects and epidemiologic factors underlying susceptibility to pediatric lymphoproliferative and HIV-related malignancies. I have developed local, national and global collaborations with experts in the fields of Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) and lymphoma to assess epidemiologic and genetic predictors of these pediatric cancers. The resulting studies are designed to better understand the molecular underpinnings of these malignancies through an integrated approach. To assess the multifactorial aspects of pediatric HIV-related malignancies, I have ongoing collaborations with members of the Global Hematology-Oncology Pediatric Excellence Program and Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative at Texas Children’s Hospital. A secondary focus is to evaluate racial/ethnic disparities and the impact of genomic ancestry on susceptibility to pediatric cancer and subsequent adverse events.
