Pediatrics/Medical Genetics and Genomics Residency Curriculum

Rotations and Call Schedule

Typically, rotations are in blocks of four weeks, for a total of 13 blocks per academic year. Overall, combined pediatrics/ medical genetics residents will do two years of pediatrics and two years of genetics intermixed over four years.

Combined pediatrics/medical genetics residents spend the first year as interns in pediatrics. Over years two to four, residents will complete 13 blocks in pediatrics and 26 blocks in genetics. Second year, residents have six to seven blocks in pediatrics and six to seven blocks in genetics. Third year, residents have three to four blocks in pediatrics and nine to ten blocks in genetics. Fourth year, residents do three blocks in pediatrics and 10 blocks in genetics. Two residents are assigned to the inpatient genetics consult service rotation, and they share call from home while on this rotation. There are no home or in-house calls on other genetics rotations.  Residents also have three weeks of vacation each year.
