Mental health concerns are common and debilitating for people of all ages. To address these concerns, Baylor Teen Health Clinic (BTHC) is staffed by an experienced team of licensed clinical and master social workers who provide evidence-based treatment to underserved communities in the Houston area. Areas of treatment include anxiety and depressive disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, impulsive and high-risk behaviors, grief/loss and life stressors, to name a few.
BTHC currently serves eight clinics where free evidence-based psychotherapy/counseling is provided by licensed clinical and master social workers. Services are provided to individuals 13-24 years of age. We strive to provide care that caters to your specific needs or we will help you find someone who can. The BTHC counseling department believes in continuity of care with an integrated approach. After being seen for your clinic visit, we can pair you with the best therapist that aligns with your mental, emotional, and behavioral health needs, without a session maximum cut-off! Some therapeutic approaches used are as follows:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): An effective intervention that targets distorted, negative ways of thinking and maladaptive behavioral patterns (e.g., avoidance, withdrawal).
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT): Management of ongoing/persistent behaviors that interfere with quality of life (self-harm, high-risk behaviors, explosive outburst, suicidal attempts, etc.)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Encouraging acceptance of thoughts and feelings and minimizing avoidance, guilt and suppression of emotions. This method can promote increased behavioral changes and thought flexibility.
