About the Putluri Lab

Dr. Putluri's research lab is focused in the area of metabolomic profiling of tumors to obtain biochemical insights into cancer progression as well as develop non-invasive metabolic markers for detection and prognosis of tumors.

They have successfully developed a state-of-the-art mass spectrometry-based metabolomics profiling platform and used it to study metabolome of bladder cancer. Dr. Putluri established a robust, well-funded research program in bladder cancer and health disparities. Particularly, his lab focuses on metabolic alterations associated with occupational exposures and smoking in bladder cancer (European Urology Focus 2017, Cancer Prevention Research, 2017, Oncotarget 2017, Journal of Urology 2016).

Dr. Putluri has been collaborating extensively with clinicians to translate some of these findings to the area of biomarker development. His laboratory is funded by grants from National Cancer Institute and American Cancer Society and Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas.

Dr. Putluri is director of the Metabolomics Core funded by Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas as well as the shared resource funds of the NCI-designated Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center. He has published over 60 publications in journals pertinent to metabolomics and metabolomics flux, and in high impact papers like Cell (2014), Science (2018), Nature (2017, 2018), Journal of Clinical investigations (2014, 2015, 2017), Cell Metabolism (2017), and Cancer Research (2011, 2016).
