Section Highlights
- Section faculty maintained national and international leadership in cardiovascular prevention, earning the #1 ranking in LDL-C care in the United States and #4 globally by Expertscape.
- Faculty published 148 peer-reviewed articles, including 37 in high-impact journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Cell, Circulation, European Heart Journal, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, and JAMA Cardiology, while presenting research at major national and international scientific meetings.
- The Center for Cardiometabolic Disease Prevention led late-breaking clinical trials with simultaneous publications in the New England Journal of Medicine and Journal of the American College of Cardiology, advancing novel therapies for dyslipidemia and cardiometabolic disease.
- Faculty secured major federal research funding, including NIH grants awarded to Drs. Layla Abushamat, Xinchun Pi, and Huaizhu Wu to investigate cardiometabolic disease, pulmonary hypertension, obesity, and vascular biology.
- Faculty received prestigious national honors and leadership appointments, including the Michael E. DeBakey Excellence in Research Award, the International Association of Medical Science Educators Distinguished Career Award, the presidency of the National Lipid Association, and leadership roles with the American College of Cardiology.
- The Section continued its commitment to training the next generation of cardiovascular scientists and clinicians through fellowships, national research presentations, postdoctoral awards, and ongoing educational programs in preventive cardiology, atherosclerosis, and translational research.

Research
Our section conducts basic science, clinical, and translational research focusing on mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of atherothrombotic cardiovascular disease and other cardiometabolic diseases.
Healthcare
We offer-state-of-the-art specialized care in the Lipid Metabolism and Atherosclerosis Clinic, part of the Center for Cardiometabolic Disease Prevention.
