Minimum Requirements for BSN-DNP Students

Content
  • Baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing from a fully accredited college or university in the United States
  • Cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or better (where A = 4.0)
  • Completion of the GRE (verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing sections) within the past four years
  • A minimum of one year (two years preferred) of experience in an area of intensive care nursing after successful completion of National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses
  • Completion of the following undergraduate courses achieving a grade of B or better: organic chemistry and statistics
  • Current eligibility for licensure to practice professional nursing in Texas*
  • Proof of current competency in basic life support (CPR for the healthcare provider), advanced cardiac life support, and pediatric advanced life support.
  • CCRN certification is strongly encouraged
  • Completion of the official application materials
  • Personal interview with Admissions Committee (if invited)

*Students admitted to the program must continuously maintain an unencumbered R.N. license from Texas and/or another state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact

Application Procedure

Submit the application on or before July 1 of the year prior to which admission is being sought. The online application is available Feb. 15 through July 1 each year.

Submit all required supporting documents and application fee such that they are received by the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program-Nurse Anesthesia Office no later than July 15 of the year prior to which admission is being sought. All items must be sent to the mailing address below.

Supporting Documents

Content

Supporting documents that must be submitted by the applicant to the DNP Office as part of the BSN-DNP application:

1. Photocopy of current unencumbered R.N. license.

2. Proof of current certifications stated on the application (front and back, where applicable). Examples include, but are not limited to, basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, CCRN certification, etc.

3. Current curriculum vitae.

4. Application fee of $90 (payable online or via check).

Supporting documents that must be submitted directly from the sender (not the applicant) to the DNP Office as part of the BSN-DNP application:

1. GRE Scores: Graduate Record Examination scores must be sent directly from Education Testing Service to Baylor College of Medicine. Baylor College of Medicine’s institution code is 6052.

2. Transcripts: Forward official transcripts from all colleges, universities and nursing schools attended.

3. Completed Applicant Evaluation Form-RN Supervisor from your current critical care nursing supervisor. This individual must be able to provide an assessment of your professional performance, clinical acumen, and essential character traits.

4. Completed Applicant Evaluation Form-Other from an RN, CRNA, or physician of your choice. This person must be able to provide an assessment of your professional abilities and essential character traits. Evaluations from family members or friends are not accepted.

A personal interview with members of the Admissions Committee will be offered to qualified applicants. Interviews are typically held on a Friday and Saturday in late August.
