Blackboard's Content Editor is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor that allows you to add and format text, insert equations, hyperlinks and tables and attach different types of files. The editor appears throughout the system as the default text editor and is available in simple and advanced modes.

If the toolbar at the top of the textbox has only one row, this is the simple mode. These icons allow you to add text effects including bold, italics, bulleted lists, etc. and behave like the tools in a word processor. [View screenshot]
- When the content editor appears, you can expand the toolbar at the top of the textbox from one row to three by clicking the last icon, which looks like a chevron. [View screenshot]
- The toolbar will expand to three rows of functions. The advanced mode includes all the available formatting and object attachment functions.[View screenshot]
- Functions not currently available appear grayed out. For example, the functions to apply or remove a hyperlink appear available only when you select text or an object in the text box.
Paste copied text into the textbox using the keyboard command Ctrl V. Right click and Paste does not work in this textbox.
By default, Blackboard Learn formats text to 12-point, left-justified Arial. Use the content editor functions to apply other formatting. With the mouse pointer positioned in the text box, you can use four methods for adding, formatting and editing text and objects:
- Content editor functions.
- Right-click contextual menu.
- Keyboard shortcuts.
- Direct editing of the HTML code.
