About the Program
The Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospitalist Medicine Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is a two-year advanced training program designed for obstetrics and gynecology physicians pursuing careers as academic hospitalist leaders. The fellowship focuses on high-risk obstetrics, patient safety, quality improvement, and obstetric and gynecologic emergencies within a multidisciplinary environment.
Program Overview
Fellows receive comprehensive training in hospital-based obstetrics and gynecology while serving as key members of the inpatient care team. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be experts in leading safety and quality initiatives, educating learners and collaborating across specialties.
- High-risk Labor and Delivery experience at a university teaching hospital
- Expertise in the management of obstetric and gynecologic emergencies, including hemorrhage, placenta accreta spectrum (PAS), and maternal critical care
- Active participation in the PAS team
- Advanced training in labor management and operative vaginal delivery training
- Complex cesarean delivery and cesarean hysterectomy experience
- Dedicated simulation curriculum with opportunities for simulation instructor certification
- Leadership development focused on patient safety and quality improvement initiatives
- Opportunities in global health and gynecologic surgery
- Structured teaching, supervision and mentorship of learners
- Strong institutional support for research and scholarly activity
Fellows lead Labor and Delivery board rounds, participate in resident didactics, journal club, and supervise medical student triage rotations. Each fellow completes a scholarly or quality improvement project and receives ongoing evaluation across ACGME core competencies.
Applicants must have completed an ACGME or other accredited Obstetrics and Gynecology residency and be ABOG board eligible or certified. A Texas medical license is required prior to fellowship start.
