Section Highlights
- The Section of Adult Transition Medicine continues to expand access to high-quality, multidisciplinary care for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), providing nearly 13,700 patient visits and maintaining recognition as a National Committee for Quality Assurance Patient-Centered Medical Home.
- Integrated clinical services, including OB/GYN and psychotherapy, support a whole-person approach to care that improves outcomes and reduces hospitalizations and emergency department visits for adults with IDD.
- Education remains central to the section's mission, with the Adult Developmental Medicine Fellowship, Project ECHO, and grant-supported workforce development programs preparing the next generation of leaders in lifespan and transition-focused care.
- Faculty continue to advance the science of IDD through impactful research supported by nearly $800,000 in external funding, with studies addressing health care transitions, caregiver support, health disparities, and long-term outcomes.
- Section faculty and trainees are nationally recognized for their leadership, scholarship, and quality improvement efforts, sharing expertise at major conferences and contributing to educational initiatives that improve care for individuals with IDD.
- Guided by a commitment to innovation, collaboration, and compassionate care, the section continues to lead efforts that enhance the health, independence, and quality of life of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

We provide elective rotations for residents, medical students and nurses, and internship opportunities for social work students. We also offer a fellowship in Developmental Medicine.
