Welcome to the Baylor College of Medicine Department of Family and Community Medicine website. I am pleased to present an overview of the department’s structure and accomplishments.

It is a great honor to serve as chair of this department, joining an outstanding team with a legacy of excellence and collaboration. Baylor has a distinguished history and is nationally recognized for exceptional academics, patient care, research, and community involvement. In this era of rapid change in the healthcare system, we are taking a leadership role in developing and integrating innovative methods of care delivery, and working to prepare the next generation of primary care providers for the challenges ahead.

Our department offers a highly productive environment for practitioners, research scientists, academic faculty, and trainees alike. We continue to build upon this success to steadily expand the scope of patient service, training opportunities, research, and both community and global engagement. Our progress will benefit not only the Baylor community, but will have far reaching effects in the region, nationally, and beyond.

Our primary aim is to serve the interests of our patients and the broader community while providing the highest standard of support to our students, resident physicians, faculty, staff, institutional partners, and collaborators.

In this effort, our clinical division provides a wide range of services, including community health, homeless care, sports medicine, and private practice in a variety of settings. Our education division delivers all levels of professional training, from student education and postgraduate residency to faculty development and fellowships.

Our International Health Program is committed to participating in clinical, educational, and research activities that have a global impact. Our research division is committed to enhancing the health of primary care populations through the discovery of new approaches to health care and has engaged in numerous federally sponsored projects concerning practice transformation, health literacy, obesity control, health information technology, cancer prevention and health disparities.

I am proud to join this outstanding team and institution and I look forward to continued excellence as we advance the Baylor mission.
