On behalf of faculty, staff, residents, and fellows with the Department of Family and Community Medicine, I invite you to explore our work in clinical care, education, and research. As a department, we are passionate about providing excellent healthcare services, uncovering new knowledge to improve the health of our patients, and cultivating quality education and training.

Guiding our efforts is the department's dedicated staff. Many faculty members are involved with our private practices, community health program, training curriculum, and research mission areas. Our physicians and advanced practice professionals see patients at numerous Harris Health clinics and health centers, as well as Ben Taub General Hospital. Our faculty supports students and trainees throughout their medical education journey, including residency, fellowship, and research opportunities.

Our Family Medicine Residency Program focuses on patient populations in Houston and Harris County with limited access to healthcare. Our program expanded to meet the medical needs of communities in East Texas through Baylor's rural residency. After the first year in Houston, training for rural residents continues with two years in Lufkin, Texas.

The department's participation in evidence-based research is a collaborative effort between faculty, trainees, and peers. Our investigators and researchers have tirelessly contributed to hundreds of academic publications and presentations in the medical community. Researchers in our Center for Prevention and Population Health Research continue to secure millions of dollars in total funds every year. In addition, the T-32 Primary Care Research Fellowship supports healthcare professionals as they create career paths in research.

I appreciate your interest in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and welcome your questions or comments at FCMChair@bcm.edu.

Sincerely,
Roger Zoorob, M.D., MPH, FAAFP
