Overview
The Obstetrics and Gynecology core clerkship, under the direction of Dr. Tara Harris, is part of the core clinical curriculum for Baylor College of Medicine medical students. Students may enroll in the rotation as early as the second half of their MS2 year. The clerkship is six weeks in duration - two weeks on inpatient, two weeks on outpatient, and two weeks on L&D/triage- with up to 35 students enrolled in any given term.
Currently, the core clerkship is reserved for Baylor College of Medicine students only. Non-Baylor students who are in their MS4 year and have completed their core clerkship in OB/GYN at their home institution are invited to apply for our electives through VSLO.
Clerkship Structure
The OB/GYN Clerkship is a six-week rotation divided into two-week sub-rotations (two weeks on inpatient, two weeks on outpatient, and two weeks on L&D/triage). There are six teaching sites available. Each student will not rotate at every site, but will be assigned in order to increase exposure across the department.
- Inpatient: Two weeks on a surgical or MFM inpatient rotation
- Outpatient: Two weeks in a clinical setting
- L&D/Triage: Two weeks, includes night shifts
