DeBakey Research Awards 2022
Baylor College of Medicine recognized recipients of the 2022 Michael E. DeBakey, M.D., Excellence in Research Awards during an online ceremony and symposium. These awards recognize faculty members who have made significant published scientific contributions to the clinical or basic biomedical research during the past three years.
Research at Baylor College of Medicine
Located at the heart of the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world, Baylor College of Medicine focuses the efforts of faculty, staff and trainees on improving health through science, scholarship and innovation. This vision is realized through collaborative research initiatives in which basic, translational, and clinical researchers work together across disciplines and specialties to discover fundamental insights into human health and disease and to apply their discoveries to develop new diagnostic tools and treatments. Collectively the research engines on the TMC campus are number two in nation funding from the National Institutes of Health. Researchers collaborate across institutions creating a vast biomedical research ecosystem.

From the Labs: Image of the Month
The Image of the Month captures a healthy mouse liver with a well-developed biliary tree through which bile flows into the intestine to help absorb fats and eliminate toxins.
Grb10 offers a potential new approach for treating obesity
Looking to find strategies to help people reach and maintain a healthy weight, researchers at Baylor College of Medicine discovered that the protein Grb10 promotes leptin activity in the brain, opening the possibility of developing Grb10-based new approaches to treat obesity.
The combination of exceptional resources, our spirit of collaboration, and the talents of the faculty and trainees at the College yields a remarkable record of achievement, which can be seen in the many awards and honors received by the College as well as faculty elections to the National Academy of Science, the Institute of Medicine, and other prestigious societies.
A hundred years of achievement in biomedical research, exceptional scientists and trainees, and a resource rich research enterprise create an exception environment for basic, clinical and translational research.
