About Us

The CMMR Sequencing Center, part of Baylor College of Medicine’s Alkek Center for Metagenomics and Microbiome Research, has been a key hub for translational microbiome research since 2011. Located in the Texas Medical Center, it provides expertise in study design, sample processing, metagenomic sequencing, and analytical tool development. Partnering with over 300 global research groups on more than 1,000 projects, the center addresses diverse analytical challenges across various sample types. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it processed over 163,000 testing samples for Houston and Harris County. Since 2022, it has partnered with the Texas Epidemic Public Health Institute’s TexWEB network, developing sequencing pipelines to monitor microbial threats in Texas wastewater. The CMMR’s mission is to lead microbiome research, advancing health through innovative therapeutics and diagnostics.
