Amanda Rodriguez completed her Ph.D. in December 2018, and will graduate in May 2019. She was a student in the Molecular & Cellular Biology Graduate Program. Her thesis is entitled, “Investigating the distinct SUMO and SMAD pathways in the Regulation of Female Fertility. She currently is job hunting in the San Francisco Bay area in the FemTech field. Bethany Patton was selected to present her work on NOBOX SUMOylation at the 2019 Texas Forum for Reproductive Sciences in College Station, Texas. This was Bethany’s first oral scientific presentation at a National Meeting.
Shawn Briley will be traveling to Rutgers University as a visiting scientist in Dr. Karen Schindler’s laboratory to learn micromanipulation of oocytes and meiotic resumption. Dr. Schindler was the 2017 New Investigator Award Recipient from the Society for the Study of Reproduction.
The Pangas Lab will be attending the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Society for the Study of Reproduction in San Jose, California, July 18-21. Dr. Pangas will be presenting the lab’s research in the John J. Eppig Session: Modulation of Oocyte Growth in a talk entitled, “Wrestling with Reproduction: The Critical Roles of Protein SUMOylation in Oocyte Development”. Robert Rydze, M.D. will be defending his master’s thesis in June 2019. He will then be joining the faculty at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee in August 2019. We wish him and his family well on this new journey.
