Fida Bacha Lab Members and Lab Alumni

Dr. Fida Bacha is a pediatric endocrinology and diabetes specialist, and a clinical translational researcher. She is an expert on childhood obesity, insulin resistance and youth-onset type 2 diabetes and related complications.

Her laboratory at the CNRC investigates the risk factors and underlying mechanisms for nutrition-related metabolic disorders in children and adolescents, with the aim of prevention of chronic medical conditions and promotion of lifelong health.

Dr Bacha is a pediatric endocrinologist and physician-scientist with expertise on pediatric obesity, insulin resistance and complications and comorbidities related to childhood adiposity including prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and subclinical atherosclerosis. Her laboratory focuses on understanding the pathogenesis of these disorders in childhood so that appropriate prevention and treatment strategies can be implemented.

Dr Bacha is also the Director of the Translational Metabolic Research Unit and the Energy Metabolism Unit at the Children’s Nutrition Research Center. In that role, she supports multidisciplinary research efforts focused on childhood and maternal nutrition, particularly physiologic and metabolic studies, and provides oversight for the conduct of these clinical research studies at the CNRC.

In addition, Dr. Bacha has been involved as a principal investigator or co-investigator in multiple collaborative studies such as the NIDDK-funded Treatment Options for Type 2 Diabetes in Adolescents and Youth or TODAY study; the Pediatric Diabetes Consortium; and the Type 1 Diabetes Exchange.
