Arkema Epidemiology Study
The overall goal of this study is to examine the potential impact of exposure to fire-related chemicals on the health and well-being of residents that lived close to the location of the Arkema chemical plant that had a fire incident in early September 2017. The health outcomes of interest are (1) cancer incidence and (2) chronic respiratory disorders.
AIM AI/ML
The major goal of this OTA is using ethical AI/ML to assess and address disparity in underserved cancer patients across multiple healthcare systems with diverse social determinants of health.
Assessing Community Benefit Agreement Effects on Neighborhood Characteristics and Displacement (ACEND)
This project examines how community benefit agreements (CBAS)-formal contracts between developers and community organizations-affect neighborhood improvement and displacement. Using 10-20 years of data from seven U.S. cities, the team investigates whether CBAs in racially segregated areas implemented between 2002 and 2008 have reduced health inequities through place-based changes like affordable housing and green spaces.
Transforming Care Delivery Models for At-Risk Young Adult Patients with Congenital Heart Disease and Amplifying Research Efforts to Improve Health Equity in Pediatric Chronic Disease Care (REACHES)
REACHES directly addresses two NIH NIMHD objectives: 1) to foster innovative collaborations and partnerships, and 2) support the training of a diverse research workforce.
The Effects of Telemedicine on Health Outcomes, Costs, and Perceptions of Care Delivery in In-Center Hemodialysis (TELEMEDICNE)
This study examines the effects of increased telemedicine use during the COVID-19 pandemic on healthcare costs, outcomes, and patient and provider experiences in dialysis care using administrative data and in-person interviews.
Survivorship and Access to care for Latinos to Understand and address Disparities (SALUD)
This proposal synergizes multidisciplinary expertise and data collected from clinical and epidemiological resources to establish a prospective, comprehensive biobank and database inclusive of a large population of Latino pediatric cancer survivors.
Source-Specific Multi-Pollutant Exposures and The Neighborhood Context in Disparities in Stillbirth
This study investigates the impact of source-specific air pollution, neighborhood deprivation, and residential greenness on stillbirth risk, with a focus on racial/ethnic disparities using advanced Bayesian spatial modeling.
Pending Projects
This is a multi-institution center grant to investigate health impacts of Superfund sites, develop new approaches to remediation, and engage with community stakeholders.
This study will enroll 450 hormone receptor-positive breast cancer survivors newly prescribed endocrine therapy (ET), randomly assigning them to one of three groups: EMPOWER (nurse case management + patient navigation), nurse case management only, or usual medical care. The study aims to assess the effectiveness of the EMPOWER program in improving ET adherence and quality of life, evaluate its implementation outcomes, and explore potential mechanisms and moderators of its effects. EMPOWER takes a multilevel, community-linked approach that aims to enhance social connectedness and address racial and ethnic disparities in breast cancer outcomes.
