We have a Zeiss AxioScan_Z1 whole slide scanner with a 100-slide capacity and we can image histology, immunohistochemistry and fluorescent slides. This includes TMAs and larger than standard slides (2x3 inch). We can use 10x0.45 or 20x0.8 objectives.

No. The slide scanner is operated by the core to ensure efficiency.
When you submit your slides we will give you an estimate, but the times it takes depends on several things:
First, there might be other projects that are ahead in line. If we cannot start scanning your slides within a couple of days of receiving them, we will let you know.
Second, it depends on your slides and staining. Slides with colorimetric stains (IHC, H&E, colorimetric ISH etc.) are generally fast to scan. Fluorescently stained slides are much slower, especially if there is multiplex staining and the staining is weak. Many sections on each slide or large sections also take longer.
The original images from the AxioScan.Z1 are in a Zeiss proprietary .czi format. Zeiss has a free viewer that can be downloaded from the Zeiss website.
You can bring your own hard drive to collect the files, or we can upload them on BCM OneDrive.
We will keep image files for one month, slides we have imaged for three months.
