Professional Statement

My research seeks to answer a fundamental question in human immunology: why do only a small subset of individuals develop life-threatening infections, immune dysregulation, or malignancies? By using naturally occurring human genetic variation as experiments of nature, I integrate human genetics, immunology, and functional genomics to define the nonredundant mechanisms of host defense. Ultimately, I aim to translate these discoveries into improved diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of immune-mediated diseases.
