Ramiro Fernandez, MD, is a general thoracic and lung transplant surgeon. His practice encompases the management of benign and malignant thoracic disorders using minimally invasive surgical techniques such as the Robotic platform. He has expertise in the management of lung cancer, chest wall disorders, mediastinal tumors, hiatal hernias, GERD, thoracic outlet syndrome, and end stage lung disease requiring lung transplantation. His research focus is on the mechanisms of lung ischemia reperfusion injury and early lung allograft dysfunction. He has a particular interest in developing targeted therapies for allograft failure in order to improve lung recipient outcomes.

Dr. Fernandez received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine followed by a general surgery residency at Northwestern University where he also completed a research fellowship in lung transplant immunology. He then completed a thoracic surgery fellowship at Cleveland Clinic. As an academic thoracic surgeon, Dr. Fernandez's goals are to provide quality patient-centered care and to innovate in the thoracic space while advancing the care of his patients.
