Louisa Chiu, M.D., FACS, assistant professor of Surgery in the Division of General Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, was named Medical Director for the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center.

Dr. Chiu specializes in acute care surgery and surgical critical care including treatment of benign biliary disease, abdominal emergencies, benign colon disease, hernias, soft tissue lesions, and anorectal disease. After earning her M.D. from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, she completed her general surgery residency at Cleveland Clinic and a surgical critical care fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan.

Konstantinos Makris, M.D., FACS, assistant professor of Surgery in the Division of General Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, was named Director of the Endocrine Surgery Program at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center.

Dr. Makris graduated cum laude from the University of Athens Medical School in Greece. He received his General Surgery training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha. He completed fellowship training in Advanced Laparoscopy and Surgical Endoscopy at Legacy Health in Portland, as well as further training in Endocrine Surgery at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Makris specializes in general surgery with an emphasis on minimally invasive surgery, benign foregut diseases and endocrine surgery.
