Tropical Medicine Clinic

The National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine has established a Tropical Medicine Clinic at Harris Health System's Ben Taub Hospital in the Texas Medical Center.

The mission of the clinic is to prevent, diagnose and treat common and neglected tropical diseases in the Houston metropolitan population and to improve occupational health for those working in regions where tropical diseases thrive.

The new clinic, which opened its doors Oct. 7, 2011, elevates tropical disease training and expertise in Houston to improve life for people in our community and for the estimated one billion children and adults around the globe who suffer from these debilitating diseases. Neglected tropical diseases are a group of 17 chronic parasitic and related infections that, together with malaria, represent the most common infections of the world's poorest people. New evidence indicates a hidden burden of tropical disease in the poorest parts of the United States, including South Texas.

We are available to answer any questions you may have related to tropical diseases, particularly:

  • Neurocysticercosis
  • Chagas disease
  • Leishmaniasis
  • Malaria
  • Dengue fever
  • Intestinal protozoa
