Applications to M.D./MPH will require separate applications to Baylor College of Medicine and UTHealth School of Public Health. These will be evaluated by each school separately. Once accepted at Baylor, students interested in joining the M.D./MPH dual degree should inform the Baylor registrar’s office and contact the Dual Degree Director. If the student is in good academic standing and has been approved by the Dual Degree Director, he/she can meet with the MPH Academic Advisor and complete the MPH on-line application process (SOPHAS).
The application process for the MPH program is through SOPHAS, and in SOPHAS you will indicate your interest in our M.D./MPH dual degree program with Baylor College of Medicine.
MPH Application Deadlines
The deadline for summer and fall admissions is April 1. The deadline for spring admissions is Oct. 1. See application deadlines.
If you have any questions regarding the MPH application process or SOPHAS, contact the UTHealth School of Public Health Manager of Admissions, Elvis Parada (Elvis.A.Parada@uth.tmc.edu).
Q: I am applying to Baylor College of Medicine. What are the application procedures for the M.D./M.P.H. program?
A: Applications to M.D./M.P.H. program will require separate applications to Baylor College of Medicine and UTHealth School of Public Health. These will be evaluated by each school separately. Optimally, students will simultaneously apply to Baylor and the UTSPH. However, students may choose to delay applying to UTSPH until after their Baylor interview or their acceptance to Baylor. Acceptance at one school will not determine or influence acceptance at the other.
Q: Will I have to take the GRE? What if Baylor did not require me to take the MCAT?
A: Applicants to Baylor who have taken the MCAT will not need to take the GRE.
Q: I am a current Baylor medical student. Can I still apply for the M.D./M.P.H. program?
A: First-year students may apply for the program at any point in their first year until the end of the second year. Students applying after the onset of MS3 year will have difficulty completing the program within five years. They should discuss their options directly with BCM M.D./M.P.H .Dual Degree Director and the UTHealth SPH.
Q: How do I apply to the UTSPH?
A: All M.D./M.P.H. dual degree students should now use SOPHAS (Schools of Public Health Application Service). Note, you will also need two letters of recommendation and a personal statement.
Q: Can I get an M.P.H. degree from a school other than UTSPH?
A: In the past, Baylor students have chosen from a variety of programs to obtain an M.P.H. However, the dual M.D./M.P.H. program with the UTSPH allows the student to obtain 12 hours of shared credit (saving tuition & fees).
