I am pleased to introduce you to the Division of General Surgery and Surgical Oncology. Our surgeons are nationally recognized as leaders in advancing evidence-based innovative surgical care through our outstanding clinical service, scholarly activity and high-quality trainees. We work as a team to be rapidly accessible, provide innovative and evidence-based surgery to every patient, set and publish the national standards of surgical outcomes, and train residents that will disseminate these advancements globally.
We provide clinical services to everyone in need through our work at Ben Taub Hospital, a county hospital renown as a leader in trauma, the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, recognized as a quality leader in the VA system, and Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, our primary private teaching hospital.
Our surgeons perform the entire range of general surgery procedures and a very high volume of complex procedures including pancreaticobiliary and colorectal surgery often using minimally-invasive robotic-assisted techniques. Our endocrine surgeons are of one of only four centers in the entire country that offer scarless transoral thyroidectomy. The work of our subspecialty focused surgeons is complemented by an experienced Acute Care Surgery team who are boarded in Surgical Critical Care and provide unparalleled expertise in the management of patients with emergency surgical problems and the critically ill.
As a result of our clinical expertise and innovative research programs, patients receive specialized diagnostic assessment; access to the newest treatment modalities, including clinical trials of new pharmacologic therapies and emerging surgical techniques; and coordinated multidisciplinary care at all of our clinical sites.
This website will introduce you to our faculty members, physicians with outstanding training and expertise. I invite you to read about their specialties and research.
