Fellows are required to participate in formal scholarly activities. This can include development of an original research project. The fellow is encouraged to design, implement, analyze and prepare for publication, an original research project during the two-year fellowship.

There is dedicated research time and a research mentor is assigned/arranged based upon the fellow’s specific research interests. The fellow is also required to complete at least one quality improvement project throughout the fellowship program.

At the beginning of the year, the fellow may opt to enroll in a course entitled “Fundamentals of Clinical Investigation”, which is offered through the BCM Clinical Scientist Training Program every August. This is a 16-evening course that will also include basic biostatistics. There are also lectures through the Fellows’ College at TCH, that the PRM fellows will be highly encouraged to attend.

Program Directors' Message

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine Fellowship. Our fellowship program offers outstanding opportunities as one of the top five Pediatric hospitals in the country according to the US News and World Report rankings. We not only boast of a world-class medical center, but we are also fortunate to have top-tier academic faculty from diverse backgrounds who will provide you with a robust clinical education experience. Being part of the Baylor College of Medicine family opens further extraordinary opportunities for our trainees, from research training programs, clinician educator workshops, a nationally ranked wellness program, and not to mention living in the country’s most diverse city Houston, Texas.

We passionately believe in training our nation’s growing Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine Faculty; our goal is to graduate skilled physicians that will be able to practice in any setting that they choose. Our program offers a well-rounded education that includes the following: medical and surgical spasticity management, interdisciplinary care management, inpatient rehabilitation, intensive outpatient rehabilitation, multidisciplinary clinics, gait lab access and so much more. The clinical education of our fellows is equally as important as their personal and professional development, and we encourage a varied training and clinical atmosphere supported by our institution and incredible city. We also believe in the importance of not just diversity, but also of inclusion, creating a safe and respectful space that allows us to maintain our diversity of thoughts, opinions, and experiences. We have truly grown and flourished through the different perspectives that each person brings and feel that is reflected in our faculty and staff.

We look forward to welcoming you to Houston and to the BCM/TCH Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine Fellowship.

Sincerely,

Unoma Akamagwuna
