About the Program

The Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine is an ACGME-accredited, two-year program designed to provide fellows with maximum clinical exposure to the breadth of endocrinology while also providing unparalleled research opportunities in preparation for an independent academic career. Physicians with exceptional clinical skills who intend to pursue a career in clinical endocrinology will be considered for fellowship positions as well.

 The fellowship program is led by Dr. Ruchi Gaba who is faculty in both the Harris Health System and at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center and Dr Bryan Jiang is the Associate Program Director and faculty at Harris Health System.

The program was first developed by Dr. Peter Kohler, chief of the endocrine division from 1972-1977. Dr. James B. Field served as division chief until 1987. Under Dr. Field's leadership, the division expanded its research capabilities and was funded by NIH for a Diabetes and Endocrinology Research Center. The program structure was developed under Dr. Ashok Balasubramanyam, who led the program for 15 years. Under his direction, the program expanded to its current size of five fellows per year involving five hospital sites, the largest in the country. Dr. Susan Samson followed as program director from 2014-2020.
