Professional Statement
I am a scientist trained in human immunology of prophylactic and therapeutic interventions. With a PhD focused on understanding immune modulation on human and animal systems, I continued my research at University of Illinois (UIC) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) to identify and optimize vaccine candidates against infectious diseases based on naturally occurring protective immune responses in endemic populations. The scientific environment and mentoring at these eminent institutions helped me gather the skills, knowledge and ingenuity necessary to extend my expertise to interrogations in tumor immunotherapy. Currently, at the Center for cell and gene therapy of Baylor College of Medicine, I conduct translational research with gene-modified T-cells for solid tumors in children and young adults. My focus is on pre-clinical development of novel Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) molecules and delineating immune responses in patients undergoing CAR T-cell therapy in clinical trials.
