- 2D Gait Analysis: How to Utilize Video
- Conference (Presenter, 2018)
- Sponsor: AAOP
- Invited to participate as a presenter. This session will highlight what the full spectrum of systems has to offer so that you can decide which one could work for you and what you are looking to achieve in your clinic. This session will take out the intimidation factor by helping you learn how to use the features on your iPhone and interpret data from more robust systems we hear about in research.
- Connecting AFO Stiffness to Plantar Flexor Weakness - Concepts and Literature Review
- Conference (Presenter, 2018)
- Sponsor: Texas Chapter of the AAOP
- Invited to present: "Connecting Stiffness to Plantar Flexor Weakness". This presentation will provide an overview of how AFO stiffness is related to plantar flexor weakness in our patients. Attendees will review proper manual muscle testing techniques, be exposed to how stiffness is measured in the literature, and use this literature to inform their AFO designs in the clinical setting.
- Optimizing Orthotic Management of Persons With Stroke
- Conference (Presenter, 2018)
- Sponsor: American Congress of Rehabilitative Medicine
- Invited to develop and present a course "Optimizing Orthotic Management of Persons with Stroke". The goal of this course is to optimize orthotic practice in stroke management. This course combines the best research evidence and clinical expertise to challenge and improve the current standard of care for orthotic management of persons with stroke. This course will provide participants with an overview of most current evidence related to orthotic utilization following stroke and juxtapose this against the average to poor outcomes of walking recovery experienced by our patients with stroke. Participants will be provided with a guideline for optimal management of persons with stroke, from examination and evaluation to device fit and training. The course will emphasize the critical need for objective evaluation of effectiveness of orthotic interventions, as well as discuss ways to improve communication between therapists and orthotists to maximize patient outcomes.
