Professional Statement
Dr. Khalid is currently Assistant Professor in the Section of Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine/Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. He earned his medical degree from the Aga Khan University Medical College in Pakistan. He then moved to Houston to complete Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology training at Baylor College of Medicine. As an Academic Cardiologist on a “Clinician Educator” track, Dr. Khalid invests most of his time on patient care duties, while splitting the rest between education of trainees and clinical research. Dr. Khalid is currently board-certified in five specialties/subspecialties: Internal Medicine, General Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology. As a ‘hybrid’ clinical cardiologist, his procedural responsibilities include diagnostic, interventional and structural procedures in the busy VAMC Cardiac Catheterization and Echocardiogram labs. As the Director of VAMC Cardiology Ambulatory Clinics, Dr. Khalid works with the administrative and nursing staff to implement several structural changes aimed to continuously improve patient care, especially during the recent COVID pandemic. All his clinical tasks involve working with BCM fellows and residents. As the Associate Director at BCM Cardiology Fellowship Program, Dr. Khalid focuses on academic activities and recruitment of new fellows. He organizes the core lecture series with the BCM chief fellow and personally conducts > 20 lectures for trainees every year. Dr. Khalid spearheads the Quality Improvement longitudinal conferences series for the BCM Cardiology Fellowship (MandM case-based conferences). He conducts a Board Review Series annually to help cardiology fellows prepare for board and in-service examinations. Dr. Khalid manages BCM Cardiology Fellowship’s official Twitter page (@BCMHEART) with focus on academic tweets. He has always taken an active role in research, having published >60 manuscripts in peer reviewed medical journals. He is currently a member of two of ACC’s National Committees (Early Career Committee and PINNACLE RandP Committee) and is chairing the ACC Early Career Social Media workgroup (#ACCEarlyCareer). In his spare time, Dr. Khalid likes to spend time with family (wife and two kids aged 3 and 6 years). He loves watching and playing soccer and cricket.
