Professional Statement
As a soccer player in high school and a kinesiology major in college, I was always drawn to athletics and anatomy. However, as a medical student, I fell in love with pediatrics – not only because of the joy and resilience of children, but also because of the meaningful relationships formed with patients and their families. Throughout my pediatric residency in Seattle, I realized that my patients shared a simple, common goal: to return to play. I knew then that a fellowship in pediatric sports medicine would allow me to help children get back to their passions.
I see pediatric sports medicine as a field rooted in both treatment and prevention. Working with children with complex medical conditions in residency deepened my appreciation for movement and nutrition – two powerful forms of preventative medicine that I am committed to emphasizing in my practice. In today’s hyper-competitive athletic culture, I believe my role also includes advocating for a balanced lifestyle. Having lived in Kenya, Canada, and on the US-Mexico border, I’ve also seen firsthand the socioeconomic and cultural challenges facing many of our communities. I am excited to return to Texas for my fellowship and serve patients, schools, and communities from all backgrounds.
