Professional Statement
Growing up, I always had a passion for helping others feel heard, supported, and validated. After witnessing a cancer journey within my family, I was drawn to the field of genetic counseling and pursued it heavily during my undergraduate career. I graduated from the University of Arizona in May 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology (Genetics and Human Health emphasis) with two minors: Biochemistry and Human Development and Family Sciences. During my time at the University of Arizona, I immersed myself in opportunities that allowed me to comfort those experiencing dark times, as well as advocate for individuals who experience inequities. Throughout my undergraduate career, I volunteered as a hospice companion, student mentor, crisis counselor for the Crisis Text Line, and at GiGi’s Playhouse. My time as a hospice companion taught me the importance of being a listening ear and providing support to those who feel alone or burdened–simply by being present. Creating a safe space to foster empathetic, patient-centered care became a passion of mine and I feel incredibly grateful to carry it with me during my time at Baylor College of Medicine. As an Arizona native, when I discovered Baylor College of Medicine’s Genetic Counseling Program and the Texas Medical Center years ago, I felt drawn to pursue a higher education here. I am ecstatic and overwhelmed with gratitude to be a part of Baylor College of Medicine’s Genetic Counseling Class of 2027! I am more than happy to talk with prospective students about anything related to BCM or my personal academic journey.
