Professional Statement

I am a molecular epidemiologist whose research interests include structural birth defects and childhood cancer. I use large-scale, population-based registry data and genomics to identify risk factors for these phenotypes and to understand the basis for their co-occurrence. I have a background in nutritional epidemiology, and am also interested in how diet and body composition affect cancer risk and outcomes. In this line of investigation I apply both targeted and non-targeted metabolomics techniques to develop prognostic biomarkers and identify potential therapeutic targets in children with leukemia. I am active in several scientific organizations, including the Children’s Oncology Group, Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention, and Childhood Leukemia International Consortium.
