As a born and raised Houstonian, I have had the privilege to experience the integrity and patient-centered care of our Texas Medical Center on a first-hand basis. When my family experienced a life-changing genetic diagnosis for my youngest sibling, I was introduced to the field of Genetic Counseling and quality of care this program specifically instills in its genetic counselors - making all the difference for my family’s medical journey.

I knew my strengths lie in curiosity and my ability to nourish intentional connections with people. Thus, I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Texas A&M University with a minor in Public Health. Throughout my undergraduate career, I sought opportunities that further developed my psychosocial skills and advocacy experience. I trained in crisis counseling and became a student volunteer for the university’s crisis-call line; as a student research assistant I attended cancer-support groups, social-interaction sessions for children with developmental and intellectual disabilities, and promoted various public health agendas in Houston’s Chinatown. After I graduated from Texas A&M in May 2025, I spent the following summer shadowing a prenatal genetic counselor in San Francisco, California. Here, I was able to observe and explore the application of genetic counseling in an environment that was foreign to me, but where patient-centered care was just as prominent. I found that my respect and passion for genetic counseling followed me across state-lines and flourished with differentiating experiences. My time in each of these roles taught me the invaluable importance of empathetic connection and application of this skill in both diverse populations and individual patient experiences.

I am excited to continue my growth as a genetic counselor in my hometown with Baylor College of Medicine and am incredibly grateful to learn under a Genetic Counseling Program whose experienced alumni gifted my own family an empathetic, patient-centered medical experience. As a part of Baylor College of Medicine’s Genetic Counseling Class of 2028, I am honored to represent this program, the people within it, and this unique field of healthcare.
