Professional Statement

Ho-min Park is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics (Neurology, NRI Bioinformatics) at Baylor College of Medicine. His research develops deep learning methods for biomedical and biological applications, with particular emphasis on medical imaging, CRISPR-Cas systems, and genomics. A central theme of his work is interpretable and responsible AI, ensuring that models used in healthcare and life-science settings are transparent, trustworthy, and clinically meaningful.

He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science Engineering from Ghent University, where his dissertation focused on advancing detection through deep learning across industrial, environmental, and health applications. His research spans multiple domains, including MP-Net for microplastics segmentation in fluorescence microscopy images, CRISPR-Cas-Docker for in silico docking and machine-learning-based classification of crRNAs with Cas proteins, and interpretable models for medical imaging and affective computing.

Dr. Park is a first author of five SCIE-indexed publications and an inventor on two patents. He founded and directed the AI Vacation School program, developing a multi-stage curriculum and mentoring more than ten junior researchers in artificial intelligence. He has led and contributed to funded interdisciplinary projects spanning environmental monitoring, biotechnology, and industrial applications, in collaboration with institutions across Korea, Belgium, and India.
