Professional Statement
I am from Atlanta, GA and earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology with minor in studio art from the University of Georgia. During my undergraduate years, I worked as a student researcher in a muscle biology lab, where I assisted in researching the genetics of muscle formation. I also volunteered as a crisis counselor with Crisis Text Line and served as a shift leader with Campus Kitchen at UGA, which runs weekly food recovery and redistribution. I spent a summer as an intern at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where I researched and presented the linguistic characteristics associated with therapeutic alliance in genetic counseling sessions using a text analysis software. It was during this time that I grew in my passion for genetic counseling and being able to advocate for and support those in my community.Following graduation, I worked as a Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT), working one-on-one with children diagnosed with autism. As an RBT, I had the opportunity to work with and build relationships with families, solidifying my desire to help both individuals and their families through genetic counseling. I spent my free time leading Art Explosion programs at GiGi's Playhouse Atlanta and volunteering in hospice, providing companionship and emotional support to palliative patients.
I am excited to begin my journey to becoming a genetic counselor at Baylor College of Medicine. I was drawn to the program's location within the Texas Medical Center, allowing me to interact with diverse patient populations and encounter unique cases. I aspire to be an advocate for individuals while increasing access and awareness of genetic counseling. Please feel free to reach out!
