Neonatal Needs Assessment in Lilongwe, Malawi at Kamuzu Central Hospital - Development of an International Neonatology Partnership: Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine (09/2017 - 10/2019); Lilongwe, Malawi; We are partnering with a neonatal intensive care unit in Lilongwe, Malawi
Development of a Murine Model for Zika Virus-Induced Microcephaly: Baylor College of Medicine (05/2017 - 01/2018); Houston, Texas; We have developed a novel murine model which elucidates a window of gestational susceptibility to congenital Zika virus infection.
Mortality and Loss to Follow Up Evaluation for HIV infected Children in Sub-Saharan Africa: Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative (11/2014 - 12/2017); Swaziland, Malawi, Tanzania, Lesotho, and Botswana; We performed a retrospective evaluation of children in Sub-Saharan Africa in 6 Centres of Excellence in 5 Countries looking into whether treatment with antiretrovirals improves health outcomes and loss to follow-up rates.
Neonatology Fellowship in Uganda: (05/2018 - present); Uganda; We are partnering with neonatalogy and pediatric physicians in Uganda to develop and implement the first neonatology fellowship in the country's history. We hope to help develop and foster neonatology-trained physicians through this partnership to improve neonatal care throughout Uganda.
Evaluation of the Placental Testing for Improving Sensitivity of Congenital Zika Virus Infection: Baylor College of Medicine (05/2017 - 08/2018); We are evaluating the use of advanced molecular diagnostic studies on placental specimens to determine if they improve the diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity and specificity for congenital Zika virus infection.

Neonatal Needs Assessment in Lilongwe, Malawi at Kamuzu Central Hospital - Development of an International Neonatology Partnership: Grant funding from Global Health Innovations Grant - Texas Children's Hospital; We received a grant to develop a needs assessment in Lilongwe, Malawi to evaluate areas that can help improve neonatal morbidity and mortality in their neonatal intensive care unit.
