Professional Statement
I study the functional relationship of two protein complexes involved in SCA1: the CIC-ATXN1 and CIC-ATXN1L complexes. Despite high structural similarity and some functional overlap, only the CIC-ATXN1L complex seems to be critical for viability. I am interested in finding out why and defining the role of this complex in the brain.
