Professional Statement
I was raised in Arcata, California before moving to Argyle, Texas and graduating from Southern Methodist University (SMU) with my Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences. While attending SMU I became a member of the Wellbeing Education Student Team where I developed educational programming and resources for various residential communities. This experience fostered my love for community education and outreach which I aim to utilize moving forward in my career. After graduating from SMU, I spent two years working as a Genetic Counseling Assistant (GCA) for UT Southwestern’s Cancer Genetics Program. As a GCA, I supported a team of 23 genetic counselors in daily activities alongside six other GCAs across six clinic sites. During my time at UT Southwestern I engaged in many research activities related to patient management and outcomes, billing, as well as sample viability. This role solidified my passion for genetic counseling and allowed me to explore the various facets of the field within and outside of a clinical setting.I am thrilled to be a part of the class of 2027 and refine my knowledge and skills in genetic counseling. I am happy to connect with prospective students about genetic counseling, BCM’s program, and the application process so feel free to reach out!
