Dr Netscher was born in South Africa and graduated with highest distinction from Medical School at the University of the Witwatersrand. After receiving some training in the UK and obtaining the Medal for the highest score in the FRCS primary examination, he transferred to the USA
He completed general surgery and plastic surgery residencies and also a hand surgery and microsurgery fellowship. Dr Netscher has a life-time professional career at Baylor College of Medicine. He has served as a Director of both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery as well as on the Conjoint Hand Surgery Board. He has served in leadership council positions for the American Society of Peripheral Nerve and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and served a 10 year tenure as Deputy Editor of the Journal of Hand Surgery. He is the recently elected Vice President of the Southern Medical Association
