Professional Statement
As a researcher with over 20 years of experience in lactation biology, I have conducted studies on a variety of aspects of mammary gland development and lactation in multiple species. This includes early work on the nutrition of lactating dairy cows, Post-doctoral work on the application of molecular biology and transgenic approaches to mammary development and lactation in mice, an analysis of growth factor signaling mechanisms in the mammary gland, to more recent forward genetic approaches to identifying and mapping regions within the mouse genome that drive variation in mammary gland development and lactation-related traits. Through collaborative work with clinicians, I have also contributed to the development of a novel approach employing the purification of RNA from fresh milk to measure the activity of mammary epithelial gene expression networks in breastfeeding women.
