Professional Statement
Dr. Angela Cortez is a primary care sports medicine physician and Assistant Professor in theJoseph Barnhart Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Baylor Medicine. She specializes in
the non-surgical care of athletes and active adults, helping patients return to activity through
advanced diagnostics, minimally invasive procedures, and individualized treatment plans.
Dr. Cortez completed her fellowship training in Sports Medicine at the University of
California, Davis, where she went on to serve as an Assistant Professor for several years.
During her time there, she was head team physician for American River College athletics
and team physician for UC Davis athletics. She has also provided international event
coverage as race physician for The Yak Attack, the world’s highest mountain bike race.
Dr. Cortez has also provided team coverage for professional sports, including her time as
a team physician for the Houston Sabercats Major League Rugby team.
As the non-operative counterpart within the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Cortez
provides patients with comprehensive evaluation, advanced imaging and procedures, and
coordinated care alongside her surgical colleagues to optimize recovery and return to activity.
