Professional Statement

Amanda M. Gutierrez, MPH is a public health researcher focused on improving access to quality health care for medically underserved populations. Currently, she is a Health Policy PhD candidate in Political Analysis at Harvard University. Her areas of expertise include access to care, public health policy, and health equity, with a focus on Hispanic/Latino populations. She has worked internationally in Central and South America around improving health education and care access as well as conducting health systems research, and has over ten years of experience researching the ethical, legal, and social implications of genomic technologies. Her current research includes a policy-focused qualitative study exploring stakeholders' views nationwide on how to improve engagement of US Hispanic/Latino communities with genetic testing for hereditary cancer risk. She also conducts research on improving language access in health care for limited English proficient populations in the US. She is interested in policy translation and the intersection of empirical health research and public policy. She received her BA from Rice University in 2013 and her MPH in global health with a specialization in maternal and child health from Harvard University in 2020.
