Workplace Concern Support and Reporting

BCM Code of Conduct

Baylor College of Medicine is committed to providing an environment where open and honest communications are the expectation, not the exception. Each member of our college community is expected to uphold the standards contained in our BCM Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct articulates our expectations for conducting business, research, education and clinical operations with the highest standards of professionalism and ethics.

The college is also dedicated to providing a safe environment for reporting any concern. The college prohibits retaliation against anyone who reports concerns in good faith, and acts of retaliation will result in disciplinary action.

Individuals are encouraged to discuss concerns directly with the person involved. If this is not possible, an initial conversation can be with a trusted faculty member or person with a higher level of authority, such as a department chair or administrator. You are also able to contact the following institutional resources for support with a concern.

Ways to Address a Concern

Center for Professionalism

The Center for Professionalism at Baylor College of Medicine creates, supports and sustains a culture of heightened professionalism and integrity among all members of the College's community. The center may be contacted to evaluate and remediate performance issues and other behaviors that undermine a culture of safety, collegiality, or collaboration.

  • Phone: 713-798-4553
  • Website: Center for Professionalism
  • E-mail: ProfessionalismMatters@bcm.edu

Ombuds Office

The Ombuds Office is a confidential place for all members of college community to express concerns, resolve disputes, manage conflicts, and increase communication skills. The ombuds is available to discuss any issue of concern, including interpersonal conflict or misunderstandings, and academic or administrative concerns. The ombuds can listen, offer feedback, or assist in developing alternatives for addressing concerns and problems. The ombuds does not replace any formal College channels (e.g. regarding complaints or grievances). Communication to the ombuds does not constitute notice to Baylor College of Medicine.

  • Confidential phone line: (713) 798-5039
  • Website: Ombuds Office
  • E-mail: ombudsoffice@bcm.edu

Integrity Hotline

Violations of the BCM Code of Conduct, policies, standards, ethics, or matters of concern may be reported through the Integrity Hotline and Web Portal.
