Patients seen in the Breast Care Center have the opportunity to participate in a wide array of state-of-the-art nationally and locally initiated, clinical studies and trials focused on prevention and treatment.

General research areas are as follows:

  • Adjuvant therapy trials carried out by the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP)
  • Clinical trials of new selective estrogen receptor modulators
  • Studies of new biologically based therapies, such as inhibitors of the EGF receptor family (IRESSA)
  • Trials of new chemotherapeutic agents
  • Prognostic and predictive molecular profiling
  • Trials of promising agents for breast cancer prevention
  • Trials evaluating the role of Herceptin in early breast cancer
