Award and Recognitions

Dudchenko honored as innovator

Dr. Olga DudchenkoBaylor's Dr. Olga Dudchenko was named one of MIT Technology Review's 35 Innovators under 35. She was highlighted for her work to develop methods to better sequence a genome. Dudchenko is a postdoctoral associate at the Center for Genome Architecture at Baylor, which is directed by Dr. Erez Aiden. Read more about her work.

Lindsay to serve on AAP clinical trial committee

Dr. Holly LindsayDr. Holly Lindsay, assistant professor of pediatrics – hematology/oncology, recently was appointed to serve as the American Academy of Pediatrics representative to the Institute for Advanced Clinical Trials for Children Steering Committee. In this role, she will advocate for the inclusion of pediatric and adolescent patients in adult clinical trials to increase the therapies available for these patients. Lindsay is part of the Texas Children's Cancer Center and Baylor College of Medicine's Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology Program.

Scollon recognized by alma mater

Sarah ScollonSarah Scollon, assistant professor of pediatrics – oncology, has received the Diane Baker Alumni Award from the University of Michigan Genetic Counseling Program, where she earned a master's degree in genetic counseling. The award honors genetic counselors who display the same vision and commitment to the field as its namesake. Scollon will deliver the annual Diane Baker Alumni Lecture in September.

TCH ranked among top in nation

Baylor's pediatric affiliate Texas Children’s Hospital ranked No. 3 in the U.S. News & World Report 2019-20 edition of Best Children's Hospitals. TCH tied with Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center for third place on the national Honor Roll. Texas Children's also ranks No. 1 in the nation for pediatric cardiology/heart surgery and pediatric pulmonology/lung surgery, and the cancer, gastroenterology, nephrology and neurology services all rank in the top 5.

July 20: Health – Moon and Beyond

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing and learn from Baylor space health experts about the impacts of future long-term space exploration at "Health – Moon and Beyond," July 20, 3 p.m., at the Health Museum, 1515 Hermann Dr. The event will include a presentation of the Smithsonian Institute film, "The Day We Walked on the Moon."

Clinical research methods courses

Clinical Research Methods courses will be offered this August - October, providing hands-on training on procedures used to analyze clinical research data. These two-day courses are directed by Dr. Hamisu Salihu, vice chair of research in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. -Intermediate Course B: Analysis of Categorical Outcome: Sept. 27

Shuttle service updates

-Changes to the Blue and Purple BCM shuttle schedules will be implemented Monday, July 15. These changes are designed to make the shuttle service as convenient and efficient as possible for the Baylor community. View the new schedules online.
-BCM shuttle riders can now better plan their rides by using the new tracking system, DoubleMap. It will provide real-time updates on the location of the Red, Blue and Purple shuttles. Access DoubleMap online at or through a free mobile app, available for download on Apple and Android phones.

With a tropical system threatening the Gulf Coast, make sure you are signed up for the Emergency Notification System to receive important messages from Baylor College of Medicine. Also, head to the Weather Safety webpage for hurricane preparation and other important weather information as well as updates on things like school and road closures if a storm does threaten our area.

Quality improvement coaches needed

Baylor's Institute for Continuing Professional Development in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety seeks qualified candidates to serve as coaches for faculty and trainees involved in QI activities at Baylor and its affiliated institutions. Learn more and apply online by July 14.

Mosaic update: New HR system and processes coming Aug. 5!

A new application for the College’s human resources functions, SuccessFactors, part of the broader Mosaic project, will be implemented Aug. 5. This will affect most employees, especially in the areas of Employee Self-Service and time management. Take note of the following points to ensure a smooth transition.
-Visit the Mosaic HR website for highlights of what's changing.
-If you have been asked to complete training, please do so prior to Aug. 5.
-For any questions, reach out to your department administrator or your department HR sponsor. See a list of department sponsors.
-Sign-up for your Multi-factor Authorization Token (multi-factor authentication security step), if you ever plan to log-in from home, a BCM affiliate or any location outside the BCM network. Find instructions on the IT service portal.

Volunteers needed: infant feeding study

Hispanic/Latino white or non-Hispanic/non-Latino white infants (3 to 4 months old) are needed for a four month-long nutrition study at the Children's Nutrition Research Center. Participation will include three in-person visits and internet surveys and will involve infant blood draws, breast milk sampling if mother is breastfeeding and description by the mother of her infant's dietary intake, infant body measurements and skin scans. Up to $120 in grocery gift cards or a pre-paid credit card available and free parking at the CNRC. Interested mothers can contact Jocelyn at InfantFeeding@bcm.edu or 713-798-0517 to learn more and to determine eligibility.

BeWell news: Getaway to Good Health San Diego Challenge

It's not too late for benefits-eligible employees (and their spouses /domestic partners!) to join the annual Getaway to Good Health Challenge. This initiative focuses on steps per day to increase physical activity. Join the challenge by logging into the BCM BeWell portal and clicking "My Challenges" under the "Community" header. BCM BeWell Vitality points available when all requirements are completed. For those who already are participating and have reached the midway point, plan to attend one of the midway celebrations from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 23, CNRC Lobby; July 25, Rayzor Lounge at main Baylor; or July 31, McNair conference rooms A&B.
