White Coats for Black Lives
Members of the Baylor community joined with TMC colleagues for White Coats for Black Lives, Tuesday at the Hermann Park Reflection Pool. Carrying hand-printed signs, they peacefully demonstrated against racism and injustice, standing in silence for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, the length of time Houston native George Floyd was restrained by Minneapolis police. Many continued on to the downtown march and protest. See pictures and video.

Mental health issues may rise to the surface for many people due to the challenges of the pandemic and the issues with racism and inequality that the country is facing. Baylor College of Medicine has resources available, including access to a behavioral therapy app, support groups, one-on-one therapy and more, some of which are free of charge. BCM BeWell offers nutritional support during pandemic
To help navigate getting healthy food on the table during the pandemic, BCM has partnered with Zipongo to offer a free program that includes online food ordering, healthy recipes, meal planning and more. School children address pandemic challenges
Baylor's Center for Educational Outreach partnered with the Phillips 66 Afterschool Clubs to offer educational STEM activities to some Houston teachers for use in their virtual classrooms during the pandemic. Two challenges were designed for teachers to engage their students, "COVID-19 Face Covering Challenge" and "Social Distancing Challenge." See students' unique designs and solutions.

Gannon lands in 'Hall of Fame'
Dr. Frank Gannon, professor of pathology & immunology and of orthopedic surgery, has received the Graduating Class Outstanding Faculty Award for the sixth time, meaning that he was inducted into the School of Medicine Outstanding Faculty Hall of Fame! The hall of fame honors faculty members who have won the award six times in a 10-year span and recognizes their long-term contributions and dedication to medical student education.

June 9: Equity Research Summit
Baylor's third annual Center of Excellence in Health Equity, Training and Research Summer Research Summit is set for June 9. This virtual conference is open to everyone who is committed to workforce diversity in the health and biomedical sciences and quality healthcare for underserved and under-represented populations in the United States. CME credit will be available. Register online to livestream the conference.
June 25: Webinar on gender equity in academic medicine
The Association of American Medical Colleges has issued a report, State of Women in Academic Medicine, highlighting key advances in this area and challenges that remain. The AAMC will host a webinar to discuss findings from the report on June 25 at 1 p.m. central time. Register for the webinar (you will be prompted to create a AAMC account if you do not already have one). In addition, the AAMC has announced the Gender Equity Initiative, and Dr. Toi Harris, associate provost of institutional diversity and inclusion, has been selected as the College's liaison to AAMC for this project. She will work with leadership at Baylor, faculty members, human resources and the Inclusion Excellence Council to develop a gender equity action plan.

Hurricane season started June 1 and already there is a potential tropical system that may impact the central Gulf coast. Make sure you have enrolled in Baylor's Emergency Notification System and that your contact information is current. Complete annual compliance training
The FY2020 Annual Compliance Education is under way for all BCM employees through June 30. This required education focuses on the College's Code of Conduct and our responsibilities, individually and collectively, to be accountable for our conduct and compliance with laws, regulations and BCM policies. The education will be available through BCM's online learning system, SuccessFactors.
