Giving thanks!

Citgo/Simón Bolivar Foundation expressed appreciation to healthcare workers for their efforts to care for the community throughout the pandemic by donating 5,000 meals to healthcare workers at Ben Taub Hospital in partnership with Baylor and Harris Health. The first delivery was Nov. 18 and will continue through early 2022, along with notes of appreciation from local school children. Thanksgiving holiday schedule

Baylor College of Medicine will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, and will reopen Friday, Nov. 26. Morrison Café and Mary O's at main Baylor and Jamail Specialty Care Center will be closed Thursday and Friday, and other food options in the TMC will be limited. The TMC shuttle will not operate on Thanksgiving Day or the day after. BCM shuttle service will operate on the Red shuttle schedule on the day before and the day after Thanksgiving. This route runs from 6:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. from main Baylor – Baylor Clinic – McNair Campus (two stops) – VA – McGovern. In addition, NewsLink will not be published next week. Happy Thanksgiving!

BCM BeWell Year-End Survey: Complete this survey before midnight on Dec. 14 to provide feedback and suggestions on the BCM BeWell program. Benefits-eligible employees and their covered spouse/domestic partner will receive 350 BCM BeWell Points. Professionalism associate director

Internal candidates are sought for the position of Associate Director of the Center for Professionalism, part of the Office of the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic and Faculty Affairs. Candidates must have a medical degree and be an associate or full professor. Giving Tuesday

Support the mission of Baylor College of Medicine by participating in Giving Tuesday on Nov. 30. Every donation will be matched, up to $15,000. Give online.

Genetic counseling accreditation

Baylor's Genetic Counseling Program underwent a virtual accreditation site visit Nov. 9 – 10. Although the site visit team does not make a final determine of the programs accreditation status, they were able to disclose that the program is in full compliance with all accreditation standards established by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC). They applauded the many strengths of the program with special mention of the medical genetics courses. Program leadership will be sent a formal site visit report in the next two weeks. Once reviewed, the report will be forwarded to the ACGC Program Review Committee and the ACGC Executive Board. The full Board will meet in the first quarter of 2022 to vote on the program's accreditation status. The training program is eligible for full accreditation for six years.

DocTalk on pancreatic cancer

DocTalk continues Tuesday, Nov. 23, noon – 1 p.m. with a presentation on pancreatic cancer risk factors, symptoms and treatment by Dr. George Van Buren and Dr. Ramsay Camp, both in the division of surgical oncology. Register to attend. BCM BeWell points available.

Compassionate Conversations for Change

The Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Inclusion invites the Baylor community to the next Compassionate Conversations for Change: Afghan Clinic – A Public Health Intervention By & For Afghan Refugees, Tuesday, Nov. 30, 5 – 6:30 p.m., to address ongoing social injustice and equity issues. The session will feature Nazineen Kandahari and Nilufar Kayhani, sisters in California who both are pursuing health careers. Register here.

Health Professions' Research Day

The School of Health Professions’ annual J. David Holcomb Student Research Day is Wednesday, Dec. 1, featuring recorded poster presentations from students as well as a live session with presenter panels. Judges will have access to poster presentations starting on Monday, Nov. 29, and can take two days to view and judge. The top three student presenters from the Physician Assistant and Orthotics and Prosthetics programs win prize money and recognition at the school's awards day. Sifers contributes to career development book

Dr. Richard SifersDr. Richard Sifers, professor of pathology and immunology, has contributed to the development of a new book titled "Career Advice for Young Scientists in Biomedical Research. How to Think Like a Principal Investigator." He participated in critical reading and editing of the entire book, drawing on his significant role in career development at BCM. The book is now available.
