College News

One school, two campuses: Applications open

Baylor College of Medicine will welcome the inaugural class of medical students to the new Temple regional campus in Summer 2023. Fourth-year medical students will be trained at Baylor Scott & White Hospital, a 636-bed teaching hospital in Temple. Applications are open for both the Houston and Temple campuses. Rusk and Ryan school supply drives

Help students at Rusk and Ryan middle schools start the upcoming school year off right by contributing to their school supply drives. View the Rusk Amazon Wish List, and the Ryan Amazon Wish List. Both schools are part of the BCM-HISD partnership, offering STEM and health sciences-focused curriculum.

CVRI pilot award applications open

BCM's Cardiovascular Research Institute has opened applications for pilot awards for proposals in cardiovascular research that will promote collaboration between multiple investigators and are likely to lead to externally funded grants in the foreseeable future. Submit proposals here by Aug. 19.

Weight loss surgery seminars

Weight loss looks different for everyone but attending a seminar on weight loss surgery may be the first step in the journey. Baylor Medicine offers patients on-demand and in-person seminar options. Sign up here.

Male volunteers needed for HPV study

Register for Clinical Research Methods

The clinical research methods beginner's course is offered by the Department of Family and Community Medicine at BCM and aims to train health professionals on how to analyze data using SAS. Awards and Recognitions

Medical student Chen wins essay competition

Rebecca ChenMedical student Rebecca Chen received the first prize in the 2022 AΩA Helen H. Glaser Student Essay Competition for her essay, "Yellow Plague in America: The Intersections of Disease, Social Determinants and Discrimination.” The essay will be published in the autumn edition of The Pharos, the quarterly journal published by medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha.

Papageorgiou earns Mission Connect grant

Dr. Dorina PapageorgiouDr. Dorina Papageorgiou, assistant professor of psychiatry, neuroscience and physical medicine and rehabilitation, has received a $250,000 grant from the TIRR Foundation through its Mission Connect program. The award supports her research project to elucidate casual mechanisms of visual motion perception and exploring AI-assisted linear and non-linear decoders to provide sensitive and specific MRI-brain computer interface neurofeedback to cortically blind patients.  

Thomas honored for advancing women in EM

Dr. Ynhi ThomasDr. Ynhi Thomas, assistant professor of emergency medicine and assistant director of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion for the Henry J.N. Taub Department of Emergency Medicine, was awarded the President's Momentum Award by the Academy for Women in Academic Emergency Medicine in recognition of her success in expanding and improving the career opportunities for women in academic emergency medicine.

Tolias lab wins video contest

Dr. Andreas Tolias The Tolias lab is the first-place video winner for the 2022 BRAIN Initiative Show Us Your BRAINs Photo and Video Contest! The lab is headed by Dr. Andreas Tolias, professor of neuroscience. Read more and see the winning video, Neurons in Action.
